I don't know if it works for bipolar, so feel free to ignore. I found that my seasonal depression let's itself be if not conquered, then at least kept at manageable levels with plenty vitamin supplements (c and d, primarily), and stopping/reducing all non-essential tasks, so that while I inevitably get worse, it takes less time to recover come spring, and have time for more progress during summer, so proper management makes it into a two steps forward one step back deal I can deal with
I 100% can see where you’re coming from. It can be more manageable if it’s not allowed to get too bad. Last year I did the same, taking vitamins etc, it was quite okay, actually. But vitamin D made my spastic palsy worse for some reason when I led an active life (studying etc). This year I’m not active at all, but also my mood is okay, so, I’m not motivated to do anything about it, even though I do find it difficult doing non-essential stuff. Your point is good and valid.
The only thing about being bipolar is that when you get better after a depression it’s hard to notice the line between being okay and getting manic, so, it throws you back in the discipline related stuff, like, maintaining a good healthy routine is very hard throughout the year, so, while it helps one to get better, you still have to reestablish it from scratch every few months.
