history.
Born the eldest daughter of House Cataegis, Idalia grew knowing that one day she would take her parent’s role. It was her duty, it was her pleasure. Fiercely loyal to her people, Idalia never saw her role as an heir as a chain, but as a tool she could just to ensure her home’s prosperity. One day, she believed, she would take her parent’s place, and one day she would rule over Zaphyr. And for such a day, she trained herself to the bone over and over again. Clever and curious, she took to her politics and geography lessons like a fish in the water.
The same cleverness that made it possible for her to notice the patterns in history — for history does not repeat itself, but often rhymes — , made her quick on her feet and quick to react when it came to her more physically arduous lessons, even if she did not take to combat as easily as she would have preferred. There is where her stubbornness kicked in, and her lack of natural ability on swordsmanship did not stop her, rather it motivated her. Idalia knew that she would need to be, at the very least, passable on the skills taught to her when she took her liege’s mantle, so from a young age she prepared herself for the day she would step into the spotlight and become a ruling lady.
Yet that day was far off into the future, she knew, and in the meantime she could do as the members of her house are wont to do: wander Vaeloria until they find their true passion.
Idalia’s passion turned out to be the sea.
The ocean called her from the ports of her home, as it did to many other Vaelorians, and Idalia did not hesitate to answer the call. Driven by curiosity and wanderlust, she joined Vaeloria’s naval fleet to work in one of their scouting vessels. Traveling the seas was a delight, but that alone was not enough to satisfy her passions so she threw herself into exploration of the less traveled routes, attempting to open new lines of trade to ensure prosperity to her home. Through the years, her dedication was noticed and she rose through the ranks, gaining the command of her own ship first, and later of her own squadron.
Her passions would have pushed her further, but before that happened she met the future king of Vaeloria. And the rest? The rest is for the history books.
extras.
Idalia lacks natural talent in swordsmanship, and it is only through sheer stubbornness that she managed to be passable. But passable was not enough for her, so she tried to find a type of combat that did suit her. She is more skilled with axes and spears.
While naturally clever and with solid fundamentals in most subjects needed to rule due to her heir training, Idalia is aware that her mathematics are rather weak. She is better at noticing patterns in history, people and events due to a naturally observant disposition.
Her main affinity is weather, but her ability to use water follows closely behind. Usually, she tends to mix both together by calling storms and using the water they grant in combat. Idalia is less skilled at healing, but she has made an active effort to ensure she is still good at it. At first, it was to ensure the health and safety of her crew, and it later became a priority to ensure her family’s health.
During her youth, she participated in the games more than once. A few times she competed in the affinity matches, but for the most part she focused on the intellectual and mixed events. She did not always win, but she has won the labyrinth, maze and riddle challenges a few times.
Most of her cynicism developed after marriage, as she became more involved in politics and began to see what happened behind the scenes. Yet despite its existence, she tries to work towards peace since she refuses to lead her people towards unnecessary bloodshed.
