Hi, you mentioned that you were self-taught, if you don't mind, can I ask if you followed any like tutorial or if you just started drawing whatever you wanted to draw until you get better? Thanks!
I say I’m mostly self taught just because I’ve definitely put in more hours an effort on my own work/merit over the years than in school, but I studied animation at university and consumed a lot of online lessons and advice - it’s not like I’ve become an artist in a vacuum. Just being online and seeing others’ work and process is learning. I’m constantly picking up tips and hints and ideas - there is always something new to learn about art.
I haven’t had need of any ‘beginner’ tutorials in a long while so I don’t really have anything to link you, sorry - anything I have saved is just for little program tips, or more advanced anatomy help.
I learned a lot of art basics before I had internet access so I used a lot of those ‘learn to draw’ books when I was a kid/teen - they’re still a good place to start, tbh! Anything with the basics about shapes and building blocks, anything about the elements and principles of art. All the boring shit you just want to skip, but shouldn’t, because it’s important.
And of course, the most boring advice - practice. I’ve been doing digital art for about 15 years now and I’m still learning.
