Ianto was born the younger of twins, but devastatingly his parents were never able to bring his brother home from the hospital. However, after only a few days, Ianto suddenly became an older twin; a new baby had appeared beside him with no explanation. Their parents raised them together without question. In his teenage years Ianto became fascinated with the supernatural, beginning to suspect Idris wasn't quite what he seemed. Intensely focused on his interests and a bit of a motormouth once he starts talking, Ianto is considered one of the "strange" kids at school, in comparison to his brother.

Although Idris is also unaware of his origins, he is very aware of Ianto's suspicions about him, and finds them highly entertaining. An extremely charismatic and popular student at school, Idris seems able to captivate anyone, but is a menace to his older brother at times.
