HIS ACTING SKILLS HAD FAILED HIM. eugene wanted nothing more than to make the proposal and vacation in general as perfect as possible. though even he had to admit that maybe he went a little too far with his insane attention to every detail. ever since he decided that he would be propose to cassandra he started to drive himself mad with the when where and hows. his anxiety resulted in long nights scrolling on his phone and cutting his beauty sleep short. erratic behavior he knew worried cass even though he tried his best to act like there was nothing strange going on. in hindsight he could see how it could easily be spun to make him look like a cheating asshole.
logically eugene knew, he could do anything for the proposal and cass would be happy. she wasn’t as superficial as her boyfriend was. but this wasn’t just a date or a vacation after a long stretch of shooting and shows. once he proposed that was it. there was no do over. so eugene needed to get it perfect on the first try. have the perfect story.
eugene knew he wanted to propose at the beginning of the vacation. there was no physical way he could enjoy the vacation if he pushed it back too far. the first night was reserved for them recouping after their day of travel. while both were used to plane rides and long days they were on vacation. there was no reason to push. and now in costa rica his nerves were settling. or at least they had that night and the following morning. he’d been able to give her his full attention but it slowly started to slip throughout the day as he tried to slyly check his phone to make sure everything was going according to plan.
he tried his best to remind himself cass had no reason to suspect anything different about their night time beach trip. well, she wouldn’t have had any suspicions if eugene’s obvious ticks weren’t starting to bare their ugly heads. the actor tried to reassure his girlfriend that everything was okay and he was fine while in his head her rehearsed his proposal in his head.
the scene was set up perfectly as they approached. branches set up in a teepee with twinkling lights and flowy white curtains wrapped around the wood. a table with dinner was set up on a blanket under the structure with pillows scattered throughout. their base was close enough to the ocean to feel the ocean breeze on their faces and take in the salty aroma without having to worry about tide ruining the dinner. as cassandra took in the sight before them, eugene moved to place his knee against the sand and reached for the ring burning in his pocket for months. ❝ hey starlight…. ❞
