Look on any given lifestyle tumblr tag (Feminism, Vegan, Equalists, Social Justice, etc, etc) and you'll find an example of this.
We all think we know what's best for humanity. We all think we know how to solve all of life's problems. Everyone is a prophet. Everyone has answers.
Whether these answers stem from religious beliefs, ideologies, or diet choices change, but they all have a common factor: We All Know Best.
Now, I know what's best for me (maybe) and you know what's best for you, but what is it about humanity that says that I should know what's best for you and vica versa? I do it too, do not get me wrong. I am probably guilty of this more than the average bear. I am a loud mouth, opinionated, bitch. I would not be me if I didn't tell people how to live their lives.
This mentality is fine to me. This "I KNOW EVERYTHING" idea is okay, and healthy, as eventually, more often than not, you will be proven wrong and have to wipe some egg off of their faces. It's like being a teenager for the rest of your life. It's constantly learning. And I truly think it's okay.
What I have a problem with is when people find a group of like-minded individuals and they feel superior together. That's when issues arise, I believe. When we have a group of feminists, or vegans, or liberals or conservatives deciding that they are superior to the rest of humanity cause they got shit figured out, that's when I think the mentality starts to become unhealthy.
I say this knowing full well of my hypocrisy, and with a little chagrin. But really, maybe we do need to learn other's perspectives before feeling superior. Maybe we all need to take a step back from our peers and look at the people we disagree with. Maybe then we can sort some shit out.
