A Haven for F-units

Bloomington, Illinois, was a haven for GM&O F-units in the late 1970s. Near the end of that decade most would see the torch, while a few were rebuilt for commuter service in Boston.

Here we see F3 808B, built in 1947, along with Illinois Central SW9 439, on the eve of the Bicentennial. This F was one of the lucky ones: it would go on to pull passenger cars as MBTA 1112. (And it may still be active, entering its 72nd year, for the Idaho Northern & Pacific.)
