11: collarbone kiss
it was an...
well, no, that wasn’t quite right
you can’t label something an accident if you fully intended to do it.
here’s how it went down:
see, jamie had never been very conservative with physical affection. it wasn’t in their nature, to hold back from hugs and cuddles and the warmth between bodies in a platonic sense. so when sterling had come over to watch netflix ( the new season of umbrella academy! ) it had been effortless to curl himself up into the other man’s arms. it had never really meant anything before. and sure, jamie could have explained why they craved affection so much. how spending his early years in and out of a hospital, where they constantly ran tests and didn’t allow him much room for physical contact had harmed him. or perhaps it was that his grandparents never really cared to hold them, given that jamie refused to pretend to be a man. or maybe it was a side effect of being a court faerie, with strong affiliations to herd-and-pack animals, and being completely isolated from their kind.
well, anyway. it didn’t really matter why jamie enjoyed cuddles. perhaps they enjoyed it for the sake of enjoying it, one didn’t always have to justify a need for affection with a traumatic past, after all. the only unfortunate aspect of this was that, well, sterling’s collarbone was right in view. and jamie’s head wasn’t particularly...
because here’s the thing, right. sterling knew jamie was fey, and that was very dangerous. if sterling knew jamie was fey, then he knew fey existed. and if he knows fey exist, then he knows what to look for. makes him a bigger target. and jamie? well, they knew, at least in a human perspective, that you can’t own people. but that didn’t really matter, did it? because jamie didn’t know if sterling had given jamie his name, or if he’d merely told the fey what to call him. and if jamie couldn’t recall that, then that meant sterling was free to take.
and jamie didn’t like that.
and that was a very difficult concept because, again, he knew that you can’t just own people. you don’t just possess a person. yet that didn’t matter to the fairfolk; if sterling didn’t belong to jamie, then sterling was free to take, and the wolf in jamie’s breast growl and snarled and snapped at this concept. and so...
it was a moment of weakness. an act made out of instinct and fear. because the fair flesh of sterling’s neck was right there, and they would not, could not allow anyone else to have him. their lips tingled and burned with the words as they were spoken, a humming lilting ancient phrase of gaelic, as their lips pressed to his clavicle. and perhaps the wolf made themself apparent too, as canines sharpened and the kiss was sealed with a bite.
and that wild thing in sítheach jamie‘s chest sang and howled and screamed its satisfaction -- only for the human to catch up, awoken by sterling’s startled sound and jamie... well, if you’ve ever seen a cat dropped in water.... “ i’m-- i’m sorry! i’m so sorry, i-- something just came over me and i can explain but it’s-- it’s a bit weird? and kinda... instinctual? and -- listen, if-- if you wanna-- if you wanna leave i understand. i’m-- fuck, i’m so sorry. fuck. shit. fuck. “
