Cripples were an easy target. They always had been. Viktor knew that. But still, he would never get used to it. And he would never stop fighting it. Barstads could see only a weak thin young man with a limp carrying around scrolls and books – but he would spit in their faces, if needed.

And that’s exactly what he had done.

Of course, like every good physics lessons, an action caused a reaction – and Viktor had already braced himself for the fist thrown or stone bended his way. A black eye was well worth keeping his pride.

And yet… it never came. Instead, there was a sudden flash of… water turned into ice. Sheilding him and the young woman that had appeared in front of him on such silent and fast feet. It was only a splitsecond. Bursting ice, a dull thud.

The woman that had showed up to his rescue had saved him from a black eye – at the expense of her own upper arm now sporting a reddish angry bruise. And yet she seemed quite steadfast in her decision to help… and the attackers seemed to shrink in on themselves, when they recognized her. Apologies and words of servitude falling from their mouths.

Viktor’s own eyes widened a little in disbelief. The Ambassador of the Southern Watertribe herself. Why on earth did she walk the streets here? Right now? And just casually came in time to help him?
