Fighting Back Against the Enemies of Democracy in South Dakota
The South Dakota Senate voted to repeal the citizen-backed Anti-Corruption Act in a 27-8 vote yesterday, in a brazen rejection of the will of the people. MAYDAY South Dakota activists along with our partners at Represent.Us rallied and packed the senate gallery during the vote, making it impossible to ignore opposition to the repeal. All the while, MAYDAY South Dakota's massive aerial banner proclaiming “SHAME ON YOU! RESPECT OUR VOTE!” flew over the capitol. While yesterday's vote was a setback, MAYDAY South Dakota won't stop fighting every enemy of democracy until reform is back in place.

MAYDAY South Dakota activist Ethelle Bean summed it up nicely when she said, "The people of South Dakota are not stupid or hoodwinked. We knew what we were voting to put in place. I knew what I was voting on!... I want and expect integrity and ethics in my government."
