If you like hands-on fun, stop by the Game Tent where @smartstudioakron will be teaching you how to make t-shirt totes! Bring your own shirt or use one of ours! (First come, first served.) #smARTStudio offers art enrichment workshops and creative opportunities for artists of all ages and skill sets. Learning is facilitated by Jennifer Davis, Visual Arts Educator and Owner of smARTStudio. Jennifer earned a BA in Visual Arts Education at the University of Akron and holds an Ohio Educator License in Visual Arts PreK-12. Her twelve years of professional teaching experience includes five years as a Visual Arts Educator in public schools, as well as, instructing various workshops and classes within the Northeast Ohio community. smARTStudio classes emphasize discovery, exploration, and creative problem-solving. Multi-arts studio instruction in drawing, painting, sculpture, printmaking, fiber arts, and mixed media. Clay workshops introduce foundations and fundamentals, hand building techniques, and extends skills in ceramics. Support your BFF 🖤 A winner of the Akron Knight Arts Challenge, Bechdel Film Fest plans to highlight films that pass the “Bechdel Test”, which brings attention to gender inequality in film and fiction, at a festival that features works made by female directors, producers, and actors 👯‍♂️Local organizer and school teacher, Brit Charek, believes that exposing young Akronites to great art featuring women front and center can directly impact gender equality in future generations. “When I look at the type of media that’s designed for them, I know we can do better,” Charek says. “I want young people to see women, people of color, those with disabilities, the LGBTQ+ community, or really anyone who is different from them in any way as more than just a token or someone who needs saving. #tbt to that time I was ridiculously thrilled to represent Love Across Akron at the Creative Capital Workshop #LoveAcrossAkron #KnightArts #CreativeCapital As part of the Knight Arts Challenge, grant winners participated in an intensive, skills-building weekend workshop that focused on strategic planning, marketing, and promotion through the arts lens. I walked away from Creative Capital inspired, motivated, grateful, and encouraged. I’m over the moon about Akron and all of the incredibly passionate artists who work to cultivate a more connected, supportive, and creative community. #imforakron As a result of this workshop experience, my goals for smARTStudio have been reevaluated, revamped, and now reflect my desire to engage an even wider audience #dreambig I’m delighted to announce that smARTStudio will now offer a creative approach to professional development and team building. With a focus on process based art making experiences, smART Workshops provide rich learning opportunities for schools, school districts, organizations, businesses, and corporations.
