Postcard #13
Imogen Rises
“i knew it was over
saw what was beneath
shouting matches light fires
and like fires
leave charcoal and grief
my own sense of belief
slips out of their hands
when they lay them on me
and still call it holy
you said family is forever
even when we’re all gone
like liars the catch is
caught up in your net
what you call the truth
i call fiction instead
accept this
except that
well that changes the bread
that you swallow with pride
as the flesh of your dead
look up to your sovereign
but enough with the preaching
i’m still going to reach in
drink water and die
still madly ask why
according to teaching
still in for the spend
what it earns in the end
but you’re tired of questions
and I’m tired of testing
i’d like to get clean
get some rest in
i’d like to get some direction
find my way
calm the river
seek out my reflection
say this is all thanks to
mere resurrection
objection
it’s way too far fetched to
say that we’re blessed in
that kind of connection
since i expect your regret
cause you say that i’m lost
at high cost the dark thoughts
are what led me away
it’s all in the books
it will all be okay
the spirit, the son
he’ll say evil won
and now that it wins
instead of your savior
save your minions and wait
there is light to reverse
you must carry that weight
die for your own sins
sink into the deep
drown in the water
that washes your feet
what’s burned at the stake
remains at the alter
the soot and the powder
of a crowd led astray
come one and come all
what you call a rise
we call it a fall
so save your short breath
i’ll hold mine and my thoughts in
about will and devotion
drink in the potion
i can see in your eyes
as the depths of your lies
are as vast as the ocean
shedding tears and dignity
shredding fears
that you learned from me
i’m gone
for eternity
so now you will see
i no longer shine for thee
for i shone for so long
for your peers and
this god forsaken fraternity
it became very clear
that regardless of tier
up here we’re all equal
down there we were not
your kingdom of fear
this leftover feast
left my stomach in knots
left me starving and weak
what you said
what you’d done
what you fed unto me
first thing you forgot
is how hard that I fought
contemptuous
against friends and my enemy
it was the end of me
hide the bodies
seek out the faces
amongst the masked
disfigured and meek
you didn’t ask but
they called me a freak
outcast
unclear
confused
lost sheep
and that rings in my ears
over years
for years
and for years
and for years i will cry
for the souls
that are born with no voice
you’ll take it from them
try to say it’s a choice
instead of you trusting
and letting me be
judgements come rushing
i accept you accept what you chose to have seen
don’t say
what you wanted
is for them to accept me
that you even wept for me
it’s all lies
no surprise
i stand for the mute
wild misguided youth
using truth and my eyes
my own guidance and head
i dont care for your price
i’ll be free when I’m dead”
