More than $20,000 raised to help Detroit boy mauled while protecting siblings from dogs As of Friday morning, more than 250 people had contributed more than $20,000 to help Detroit boy mauled while protecting siblings from dogs with his medical expenses. Deacon, a University Prep Academy sixth-grader, was playing outside his Detroit home Monday afternoon with his 9- and 7-year-old sisters, 5-year-old brother, and some other kids, when the dogs got loose. Deacon had put himself between the dogs and his siblings so they could get away. But one of the dogs, a pit bull mix, bit down on his left calf, sending Deacon to the hospital. Some donors left comments, praising Deacon for his bravery and courage: "This young man is simply heroic. It’s an honor to contribute to this fund." "God bless you and your family. I hope my little bit helps ease the pain in your leg." "Way to take care of your family and community Deacon! You should be very proud of yourself as many people are of you. Wishing you a speedy recovery." Deacon's father, Peter Ashmore, commented, "We are so overwhelmed!!!" "We are so grateful that so many perfect strangers have rallied to support Deacon!". Deacon's mother, Elisabeth Ashmore, said "The experience has been traumatic, but doctors expect Deacon to recover from these injuries. . . #impactalife #impactnews #impactothers #changetheworld #changelives #makeadifference #makeanimpact #community (at Detroit, Michigan) https://www.instagram.com/p/CPJBgTiBq5L/?utm_medium=tumblr
