Delegated Powers- Powers given to the Federal Government which include
"Expressed" powers- powers that are written down:
"Implied" powers- powers that are understood (Inferred- not written down)
"Inherent" Powers- powers of the federal government, simply because it is the federal government. AN example would be the right of the federal government to deal with other nations.
Powers granted to the federal government ( Only):
Congress can declare war
Coin/ print money
Grant copyrights and patents
Create past offices
Maintain the military
Powers granted to the State government Reserved power
Establish police
Oversee primary. secondary education
Take land for public use
Character local government
Borroow money
Conduc election
Powers denied to the Federal Government
No export taxes
No titles of nobility
Concurrent Powers- powers shared by the state state and federal governments they include:
Powrs to make laws
Establish courts
Borrow and spend money
Impose and collect taxes and fees.
The National Government responsibilities to the state
Right to vote
Protection
Respect state borders
Grants in aid- money from the federal government to the state on a 50/50 basis - first used during the administration of LBJ.
Pro- States only have to spend 1/2
Con- Te federal government can no longer afford to fund the entire program.
