Our round robin campfire tale at VMHQ is shaping up great and we’re SO excited! Here's a list of all the writers who have committed to writing one big, crazy improv-style story together thus far (in no particular order).

Signups are still open! If you'd like to join in, get in touch with us by dropping a message in our ask box or by messaging one of the librarians directly by Friday, April 28th. We’ll need either your tumblr user name or an email address, so that we can get in touch with you!
Read on below the cut for a FAQ explaining how the story process will work and answering all the questions we've received.
When does the story begin?
The first installment will be posted on Saturday, April 29th. (We had so many awesome writers sign up that we decided to start a week earlier than originally planned.) With our current roster we should be posting well into September, so settle in for a fun ride!
How often do installments post?
Installments will post every Saturday on @vmheadquarters until the story is done!
How will I be notified it's my turn to write?
We’ll let you know your individual posting date as soon as signups close, so you’ll be able to add it to your calendar right away. Also, we’ll tag you on tumblr when the segment before yours posts to let you know your writing time has started.
We know it’s hard, but try to resist the temptation to coordinate with other writers beforehand. It’s like a game of hot potato, or a campfire story told in parts--you never know what you’re going to get handed. The fun is in the spontaneity! :)
How long do I have to write my section and how do I turn my section in?
You’ll have from Saturday, when the previous segment posts, until that Wednesday (4 nights, 3 days) to write your part of the story. Each segment needs to be between 500 and 1,000 words!
You can use your own beta, or any of the librarians are happy to take a look over your segment, if you’d prefer. Just get it to us by the end of the day on Wednesday, or we’ll put out a request for a pinch hitter!
When you finish your part of the story, submit it to us via email - [email protected]. We’ll queue it up to post on the VMHQ blog the next Saturday!
What do I do if I have an emergency and can't write my section?
If for any reason you can’t write your entry (life happens!), you can request a pass, and we will put you back on the list for another chance later. But you MUST ask for the pass as soon as you’re tagged, so the next writer has enough time to fill in!
What can I write about?
You need to continue the story in a logical way. So, if the previous author leaves our fearless heroine dangling from a cliff by her fingertips and on the verge of solving a murder, you shouldn’t continue with her suddenly knocking back shots at a frat party with no mystery in sight, or rocketing through space (unless you’ve got a REALLY great transition in mind). Conversely, you need to end your segment in a way that gives the next writer something to work with. Cliffhangers are fine, but don’t shut down the story.***
There are no limits on content--shippy or non, slash or het, T or M rated, side plots or main--beyond that you follow through on the story thus far AND leave a workable set up for the next author.
Think of it like improv writing; always say “Yes, and...”
*** The librarians reserve the write to ask for revisions to your segment before posting if we feel like it’s working against the overall story.
Will this be posted on A03?
Yes! The fic will be posted on Ao3 for archiving purposes. If you’re a writer, make sure we know your AO3 user name so that we can credit you!
