Improvised Armour
“André are you going to be okay?” Sai tapped his foot. His boyfriend had sworn up and down he wanted to do this and he would be totally fine, but stepping into a virtual world and therefore being without his powers seemed to be taking a larger toll on him than either of them expected.
“I’m fine. I’ll be fine. You do this all the time right? I mean, it’s how everyone lives, blind and scared.” André smoothed his virtual clothing.
“You can stop if you want.” Sai offered. André bit his lip, considering.
“No. No I have to. It’s the safest way to figure out how to do this if it ever happened for real, which it won’t.” André took a couple of deep breaths. “So what kind of game is this?”
“Survival horror. It’s what you asked for.” Sai took his hand. “We’ll be okay. Come on, let’s see what we have for supplies.”
They took stock of the inside of the abandoned house. André picked up an odd assortment of things, along with a pocket knife. Sai paused in his fortification job. “What are you doing?”
“Making armour. You want to be prepared right?” André had a couple of pop bottles, rubber bands, a couple of cans and a lot of duct tape. He was filling the cans with cotton and something for a fishtank.
“Prepared for what?” Sai went back to fortifying the windows.
“You said humans are the enemy in this game right? I saw a jeep outside and the guns they had are for firing tear gas so I figured you’d want to have a gas mask.” André handed over the contraption.
“Still trying to predict the future?” Sai slipped it in place. He could breathe through it so that was a good start. Whether it would stop gas or not remained to be seen.
“I don’t normally have to predict.” André was already back to work, making something out of a plant pot to protect his head. Sai went back to work on the virtual boards.
