sitting on the floor eating takeout fluff for a prompt?
imma combine these two bc it makes sense
“Are you gonna eat that?” Link asked belatedly, hand already reaching for the last of the Mu Shu pork. He licked his lips like a cat that caught the canary and Rhett laughed, resigned to the fact that he was giving up the last of his portion.
It was a typical weeknight. They both had off work for the night, so they ordered take-out, had it delivered to the dorm, and took their usual seats on the floor with the coffee table between them. The shitty carpet rubbed at their ankles when their pants rolled up, but Rhett always thought it was worth it to see Link chowing down all happy.
He watched his best friend, watched the way his eyes lit up when Rhett offered him a fortune cookie and how his eyebrows scrunched up when he read the fortune. “The love of your life will appear in front of you unexpectedly.”
Link huffed a laugh at that, crumpled up the little piece of paper and threw it at Rhett. Only Rhett didn’t react quick enough and it hit him squarely in the forehead. A soft smile appeared on his lips, but no laugh like Link.
It hit him then, much like the paper, that it really was true. Link was the love of his life, in every sense. He was his best friend, his co-pilot, his reason to laugh and smile, his food buddy, his beer pong partner, his lab partner, his conscience, his encouragement. The love of his life.
He must’ve been staring because Link shook his head like Rhett said something weird. Maybe he did. Either way, he shook himself from the moment and pushed Link’s shoulder in an act of normalcy. “Whatever, man,” he said, moving to read his, “You have a secret admirer.”
“Oh.” Link crunched around his cookie, but looked lost in thought. “Who d’you think it is?” All fake nonchalance like Rhett couldn’t read him like a book. Rhett laughed, said something about how he knew that fortunes were fake and it was stupid to think about it.
Link nodded. “I don’t know, mine seemed pretty real.” He was looking down, picking at some lint from his pants, but his eyes flicked up at Rhett with an open expression that bordered on shy.
Rhett hid the way his breath hitched behind a cough and feigned to grab all the garbage. “Love you too, bo.”
