The shikomi, maiko and geiko of the Miyajima-chou hanamachi celebrated Miyabikai Osendo recently, where everyone was wearing their new yukata and prayed to the gods to make progress in their performing arts. Also recently was the celebration of the Gion Festival (Gion Matsuri), where several members of the hanamachi were chosen to ride along the floats that rode through the streets of Kyoto, and one geiko was honoured to be the one performing Natsu wa Hotaru in front of an audience.
