The last photos from Aichi prefecture :)
On our way to the Inax ceramics museum we passed some interesting old houses and a derelict temple :) My friends were kind of scared of it because there was no one there and yet it seemed like someone/something was working on it. It looked very much like it was being worked on to me and it was so fascinating and interesting :3 I wish I could go there again to see the progress made in the time that has elapsed since my visit to this place :3
The hill next to it was so green and all over the green there were small flowers blooming which made the hill look very nice despite its unassuming shape and location :)
It’s places like those that make me like Japan :)
I can’t wait ti visit Nagoya again although things will be a bit different this time but I’m still so excited (^-^)
I wish everyone a great weekend with sweet dreams and something to fascinate you (^-^)/
Tools for working clay :) This was a very interesting place to see in Tokoname and it belongs to the Inax company that is famous for making tiles :) They have another very interesting museum close by :)
This was highly interesting to me as I do like Japanese stoneware, pottery and tiles a lot :) Usually museums only dedicate a small part of their space to pottery but in this case the whole thing is dedicated to this topic :)
They had a lot of good photos and images explaining the use of the tools so even if you can't read Japanese you can still understand how these tools have been used :) I have liked making pottery and working with clay for quite a while but rarely have a chance to do it as I neither have a kiln nor a room to do this in :D So what I’m doing right now is take in as much knowledge and ideas as possible so that maybe one day I may make something again :)
The tools shown in the photos were all specialised tools made to perform one task which makes for their beauty as once you change the task they loose their justification to exist so they are always teetering at the brink of death performing their one task beautifully but being quickly forgotten by most yet dear to the initiated user who probably shaped them and took good care of them as repairing or making a new one would alter the original shape thus loosing their usefulness :) There is beauty in these kinds of things that can only exist in a certain context for a certain time :) To me this is very much the essence of the tea ceremony :) and one of the reasons I do like old tools :) They were made in a different time when the raw material and skill needed to make them were scarce so that they were made in a way that seems odd and imperfect :)
I spent a very nice weekend with my family and greatly enjoyed the great food my mother prepared (^-^)
I wish everyone a great new week with sweet dreams and a passion you can follow (^-^)/
More pottery tools in the Inax museum in Tokoname :)
I’m posting these to complete my tour of this museum :)
The museum shows a very complete collection of the implements used by the craftsmen from the small tools to the clothes they wore :)
The photos made understanding the use of the tools that were on display quite easy although they will look familiar to most people who did make pottery from clay at some point :)
I especially liked the simple approach to turn tables :) If I can have an atelier at some point I want to make one of those to make Macchawan or Mizusashi or Kensui :D A friend in Nagoya showed me a Kensui made by his father many years back and hit was beautiful and sounded so nice :o Japanese ceramics feel very enjoyable to me and are very different to the ceramics produced in China and Korea in that they are imperfect and playing with this aspect of their existence. Like the streaks of white glaze applied to an earthen tone background are never the same on any of the items produced and this makes for most of their appeal to me.
It is also something many people I met don't get (^-^;) like they want perfect smooth surfaces and fancy patterns and designs (^-^;) This feels very alien to me though because as a mammal I’m not particularly perfect by any means so having a perfect environment around me feels cold and mechanic. I’d much rather have an item that has some degree of imperfection to it :)
Last week was quite nice but also a bit stressful. So today I’m just enjoying the nice weather and relaxing at home :)
I wish everyone a great new week with sweet dreams (^-^)/
