I'm trying to explain to my bf why it might be problematic that he has dismissed Viola Davis' character in How to get Away with Murder as "Evil and manipulative," but can easily root for or sympathize with characters like Walter White or Dexter Morgan. Do you have any resources that discuss why mostly only white men get to be anti-heros while women, especially WOC, get villainized?
I know I've seen this talked about before, so I'm sure you'd be able to find something on it. I'd suggest searching for "double standards on race in tv" or "less sympathy for characters of color" or "anti-heros vs villains by race."
