Independence Lake Trail, Colorado
Hiked to three high alpine lakes yesterday -- Linkins Lake @ 12,008ft (#2,3); Independence Lake @ 12,497ft (#6,7,8,10); and Lost Man Lake @ 12,482ft from the top of Lost Man Pass @ 12,815ft (#9). Still too much snow on a steep talus slope to hike down to the bottom by the lake. Roaring Fork River headwaters at Independence Lake (#10). Hike began at the tree line (~11,500ft), ascends through high alpine wildflower meadows and willows until eventually there is no vegetation besides scrub and lichen. Had to traverse several snow fields, and Independence Lake is still half-covered in ice. Saw lots of marmots.
