The Indian humanoid robot is officially named Shalu. A science teacher and a robotics expert Mr Dinesh Patel developed the first intelligent humanoid robot in India as a research project & is inspired by Robot Sophia and the movie Robot (Enthiran). The Council of Scientific and Industrial Research helped Mr Patel in developing the Indian robot. Shalu speaks 9 Indian languages and 38 foreign languages. The robot is made up of waste materials found in homes. Its features are explained in the India Science TV channel documentary about the robot's development.

Meet the Indian humanoid robot Shalu. She speaks 9 Indian and 38 foreign languages. Shalu can also display emotions like anger, happiness, laughter, and jealousness.

Shalu is an Indian Humanoid Robot developed entirely in India by Mr Dinesh Patel, a science teacher in Kendriya Vidyalaya, IIT Mumbai. She speaks both 9 Indian and 38 foreign languages, & can display emotions like anger, happiness, laughter, and jealousness. Dinesh Patel used indigenous materials like discarded plastic, broken pieces of wooden furniture, cardboard for making the physical structure of the robot and has provided a detailed report of making the Indian robot Shalu on the India Science TV channel. Council of Scientific and Industrial Research organization congratulated and appreciated Dinesh Patel on the development of the Indian humanoid robot Shalu.
