Jamil, the Indian rhino, has some fine hips, but he was swinging them out from the corner as he was backing up which made it difficult to get him in a good position for preventative foot care and health checks. It appeared the sway came into the picture as he had a long history of receiving food facing people head on. It also happened more if he backed up quickly. Although he does know a side present behavior, it was hard for him to do in the corner. We slowed things down and reinforced more frequently to get exactly the position we wanted. As he gets more reinforcement history for backing up with proper position we can speed it up and cue once and reinforce once.
