Ambition's Debt
Adapted from William Shakespeare's epic tale of honor, ambition, betrayal, hubris, and the supernatural. Set against the backdrop of a post-apocalyptic world, the story follows the downfall of Rome's most honored citizen, Marcus Brutus, as he conspires to assassinate Julius Caesar, in order to forestall tyranny and preserve democracy.
The film's stellar cast includes Nathan Darrow (House of Cards), Peter McRobbie (Bridge of Spies), and Kathleen Chalfant (The Affair). The movie also features Pernell Walker (Money Monster), and Carra Patterson (Straight Outta Compton). Filmed entirely on location in a Brooklyn industrial warehouse with an abstract expressionistic production design, it’s Mad Max meets William Shakespeare meets Lars Von Trier.
Director Biography
Devin E. Haqq is a native of Nashville, Tennessee and a graduate of the Alabama Shakespeare Festival's Professional Actor Training MFA program. He has performed in numerous stage productions, around the regional United States and New York City, most recently appearing Off-Broadway in Epic Theatre Ensemble's productions of "Macbeth" and "Richard III". Devin also appeared in HBO's award winning ad campaign "Surprise", directed by Sam Mendes.
As an independent filmmaker, he made his directorial debut with THE ASSASSIN (2007), which played in several film festivals during the 2007-2008 season, including the 2007 Urbanworld Film Festival, 2008 Nashville Film Festival and the 2008 Pan African Film Festival. Devin's next feature project, FRANCIS OF BROOKLYN, currently streaming on Amazon Prime Video, which he served as producer/assistant director, played in 9 festivals and won 4 awards, including Best Feature at the 2013 DIY Film Festival in Los Angeles.
Devin's current project, Ambition’s Debt, is his sophomore feature film directorial attempt. This latest endeavor takes on William Shakespeare’s iconic depiction of the greatest assassination plot in history. Filmed entirely on location in a Brooklyn industrial warehouse with an abstract expressionistic production design, it’s Mad Max meets William Shakespeare meets Lars Von Trier.
