They killed those who defended water and life. Power fears those who love the world. da Barbara Bonanno BNNRRB Tramite Flickr: Berta Cáceres (1971–2016) was a Honduran activist and indigenous leader of the Lenca people. She co-founded the Civic Council of Popular and Indigenous Organizations of Honduras (COPINH) and fought tirelessly to defend indigenous lands and natural resources from destructive hydroelectric projects and multinational interests. Her activism made her a target of powerful political and economic forces. Berta Cáceres was assassinated in her home in 2016. Her legacy lives on as a symbol of resistance, justice, and the defense of the environment and indigenous rights. This series was created to awaken the deepest part of the heart. Everyone knows the truth, but it is time to open our eyes. What is happening in the world cannot be ignored. Adults must listen to and support the young people who rebel against injustice, oppression, and indifference. Through these images, I want to honor those who gave their lives for causes that humanity has not yet fully achieved.
