Okinawan for “trans”
うぃきがふーじー // Wikigafuujii -- A woman who is like a man; a masculine female.
うぃなぐふーじー // Winagufuujii -- A man who is like a woman; a feminine man.
I know that we should be saying that trans men are just men, etc., but I’m still excited to learn that the language of my grandparents and their grandparents had words for gender rebels at all.
Yes, I’m a woman, but I’m also a trans woman, and I’d like some way to say that in this old, nearly extinct language.
