Cooking while pregnant: Are induction stoves safe?
There have been questions whether induction cookers have effects on health, particularly that of pregnant women. The electromagnetic fields that induction tops use to heat the cooking surface became a subject of scrutiny in the medical community.
Unlike traditional stovetops, induction cookers use induction heating to keep the entire top at an even temperature. This means that food items are cooked faster and evenly. Many health experts found this cooking style more beneficial, as the consumption of charred meat has been linked to several potentially debilitating illnesses.

Still, the way in which induction heating is achieved drew some attention. Several health groups conducted their own research on induction cooking and its potential effects on individuals, if any. Data from these research found that induction tops emit frequencies in a range of 20 and 100 kHz to heat the surface. This follows the many restrictions set by the health regulatory board.
In such insignificant levels, these waves have negligible effects on people or on fetuses. However, there is a caveat to this conclusion. Researchers found that frequencies are intensified based on the size of the pot being used, and the pot itself. Older models of saucepans may already be fundamentally weak and already emitting toxic chemicals in the area. The potential hazardous area increases with the size of the pot.

Still, while the possibility of stray magnetic fields does increase with inferior pots, these pose no health risks towards pregnant women. As a precaution, women should not continually expose themselves to these potentially risky areas during the latter parts of their pregnancy, especially if their condition is delicate.
