Hello! I found The Gray Ascendancy not long ago and had a blast with it (Yves my beloved). I have a few questions I was hoping you could answer. 1. How many chapters do you plan on there being? 2. Can all 5 secrets be found in Chapter 1 (and if yes can I have a hint?? I haven't found any!) 3. I've seen some IF games have a "walkthrough mode" for subsequent playthroughs that show what stats a choice will affect, do you think you might add something like that later on? Thanks!

The plan is for 10 chapters. It could turn out to be a liitle bit longer (11-12), but with what I have in mind right now, 10 sounds like a fair estimate.

It's 4 secrets, actually! Two depend on stat values being the right amount at the right time and are rather big spoilers, so I can't say anything. There is a discoverable secret if you choose to spend your free time in Riante chilling in the tavern. You can unlock another in the scuffle with the fog hounds. High-magic MC does it by "connecting with the magic of the forest" in their downtime after defeating the hound; weapon-MC does it by not reaching for magic when a hound attacks them on the ground.

Did you read my mind, because I've been thinking about it these past weeks 😭 Admittedly, I thought it would be small-chuckle-inducing to roll out a post on April Fools' that the game would now look like this:

But! the more I thought about it, the more it made sense. So a refined and intentional version of this is not out of the question.

Wait- you can have Arthur find the medallion instead of mc? How? If you don’t mind sharing.

Arthur finds it if the MC is occupied by the optional scene that takes place after dealing with the mage... spirit thing. That optional scene is one of the secrets, too! I cannot reveal how to get it, as it would spoil a lot, but some of you might stumble into it naturally.

I spent yesterday evening browsing the demo for secrets and variations (had a lovely time) but I was also specifically trying find a path I thought I remembered playing where the trio doesn't know you're a mage all the way up to the fog hounds, where I finally chose to reveal it- did I dream that, or is that a hard to get path or something, because I replayed the beginning 4 or so times trying to find it again, but the trio always knew I was a mage when we met up again?

It could have been the scene where an MC that starts off not using magic resorts to it when a fog hound threatens their life? The trio knows the MC has magic in either case (courtesy of Gale), but they aren't as wary of the MC who is dismissive about their Gift. So when the MC musters enough magic to destroy a fog hound all of a sudden, the trio goes, wait a minute 🤨

is it possible at this point to avoid the threat of prison without handing over the pendant?

It is possible unless your MC killed that guy from the prologue. Then you either need to be very convincing or very straightforward in your answers to the trio.

Are there any secrets we can learn in the story so far or will we start learning them later?

There are two discoverable in the currently available section of chapter 1.

fixed a few coding errors that have resulted in the mix-up of the displayed text apparently Y never touched anyone's sash when they were supposed to, and it is just sad;

Not sure if it's a bug but this still isn't appearing for me, is there something else you need to choose other than wearing the sigil?

Hey! Just tested it to make sure, and it shows up under the intended conditions. For Y to act this forward, your MC would have to express that they missed Y in the conversation with Mort and later wear the insignia not out of self-interest, but because they feel like they do things in Y's name. The scene is appropriately different for the touch-averse MC, naturally.

Is there a way to retrieve the item we were sent to get?

Hi! Up to the current point, no, and the MC, Jax and the Gray Regent will be basing their next action on the fact that the item is now presumably being delivered to their chief enemy.
