Dennis's mom, Cheyenne, wasn't invited to his birthday party, as she had put Dennis through so much throughout the years that he had tried to cut her out completely. Of course, she found out about the party and showed up anyway, ready to throw a fit about it. What makes it sad isn't just that Cheyenne caused a scene—it's that Dennis kept trying for years. He left home as a teenager, gave her chance after chance, invited her to family outings, tried to let her know her grandchildren… and eventually reached the point where protecting his own family had to come first. This picture of him just staring out the window while she argues says so much.
