PREMISE:

Get in. Get out. Get home.

Nilros is sent to the city of Trenilo for his final chance at redemption in the eyes of his church and state, but one carefree thief with a heart of secrets and the ability to manipulate luck threatens it all.

SETTING:

In the universe of Inherent Misfortune, magic is granted to mortals through the worship of one of the several deities. With practice, mastery of one’s abilities becomes possible.

WIP Setting: Trenilo

In the central continent of Vostya, Trenilo resides in the northeast, sandwiched between the northern mountain range and eastern oceanic border. Its most notable feature is its three high circular walls that separate the city into the Outer City, Middle City, and the Plaza largely based on economic gaps.

Trenilo is ruled primarily by Archmage Petrelli Wittenfeld, who resides in the Plaza and works with a small council. However, the Archmage’s reign has been recent. Previously, the city was run by the cult called the Black Lotus.

At the time of the story, the city is being overrun by shades, the corrupted souls of the long dead. Because of this, the guard force in and around the city has increased. This, of course, affects both tourism and trade.

“We come down from Dresunny in Rathine by command of the Sect of Lord Remierval, Order of Virtue. Our purpose is to investigate the supernatural activity that has been occurring in and around the city.”

“The papers.”

Holarie

“Trenilo has always been cautious. But I expected a few more guards,” Holarie said. “I would guess the Archmage is attempting to keep the issue as localized and regulated as possible. Though, that’s difficult to do with something as immaterial as shades.”

“I’ll take my dinner here.”

Originally From: Cleiba, city and region unknown

Background:

Celsi studies arcana at the Adrance Regional University for Arcane Practices, but has taken time off from her studies to follow Nilros and Holarie around the world. She has a lot of power, but little control, so she uses her staff to bring her arcana into balance. She is great at making tactical decisions with her high intelligence, but lacks the tact and diplomacy that some situations require.

Originally From: Cekrai - a region from Eastern Dofren

Background:

She is the princess of Cekrai, a kingdom known for its worship of he most morally dubious deities of the pantheon. Despite being the daughter of a necromancer and dark sorceress, Holarie loves to heal. As she travels around the world with Nilros, she teaches herself basic medicine and healing magic so she can preserve the life and nature that fascinates her. Holarie loves her friends and tries to be as understanding and patient with them as possible.
