The Shadow in Shamanism
The Shadow in Shamanism, Where the scientific mind wants to understand and analyze the components and pieces of the "Shadow". The Shaman seeks to communicate and negotiate a win-win Path for the person and his shadow. We, Shamans, understand that there ar
Although I greatly respect Jungian Psychology (and have been an active member of the International Association for Jungian Studies for many years), their assertion of the “Shadow” seems limited from my experience as a Shaman. This is part of what Wikipedia says: “In Jungian psychology, the shadow (also known as id, shadow aspect, or shadow archetype) is either an unconscious aspect of…

Here's a peek at what your shadow-self is holding on to:
LEFT: Hiding From Your True Self The image in this card is of two women draped in red cloth. One is tilted towards the reader and the other is tilted to the side. The body language on both women is guarded, as they grab the cloth and hold it close to their bodies. Camouflage is a means of survival. As much as we encourage others and ourselves to show our true selves, there's a lot of pressure to hide and conform. Our rough edges - either exceptional or overly plan - put at risk of being shunned and ignored. Sometimes authenticity can lead to a sense of solitude because we don't feel like we truly belong. What are you willing to risk socially in order to come out of hiding and truly be yourself?
MIDDLE: Fragmentation There are things in life that can fracture and change us. Physical and mental illness. Trauma. Loss. We pick up the pieces and find that they will not mend back together again perfectly. We mourn that which we were. Our friends and family don't know how to engage, and we mourn those changing relationships too. This card is about processing the anger from those losses and changing situations so that we can start to rebuild ourselves into something new.
RIGHT: Peaceful Among Thorns The image in this card is of a futuristic (cybernetic?) monk, a representation of the mixing of spiritual and material. In the quest for meaning and understanding, we run the risk of always looking for spiritual answers for material concerns. Issues like poverty, illness, and loneliness are met with spiritually-aligned advice. Have you fallen into this trap or know someone who has? While the spiritual can provide context, sometimes the answer to material problems is material solutions.
How do you plan to work on your shadow-self this week?
