Im sure we have all had those moments where we have thought to ourselves that if we change some part of our appearance that we would feel "prettier" and the world would perceive us as more beautiful. We would have more friends and men would give us more attention if we just had longer hair or had cosmetic surgery or cosmetic tattooing. I'm sure at some point in our lives we have felt like this and changed something about our appearance just to feel more "beautiful" Im not saying that that is always a bad thing, I do believe that a change is always nice too and its great trying new styles and looks to see what takes our fancy and get our creativity on. It can be fun! However society has advertised the crap out of pushing us to do this or that to oursleves to become more "beautiful" that we have become obsessed with it in a very u healthy way!!!
Since really focusing on my authentic self recently, I have come to realise that unless we are feeling good about ourselves on the inside, we cannot feel truly beautiful on the outside. Ive noticed that days where I feel like shit about something that has happened in my life or Im feeling insecure about something - I never feel quite happy in my appearance! I guess its the same when people see a gorgeous looking person but later on realise that they are a mean and a nasty person, so their outward beauty is seen as "ugly" and they are an "ugly" person. Unfortunately when people are like this it also shows us that they are not happy with themselves for whatever reason that may be and we should show them more compassion then judgement..even though sometimes it is definitely harder done then said! On the other hand, when Im feeling really good and excited about life etc, When I'm eating well and exercising and know I am looking aftef myself I feel really good as a person all round! I feel pretty on the outside and the inside. I feel like right now I need to find a way that works for me to get into a better frame of mind when I am having those flat or off days.
In saying that, I'm not at all dismissing the fact that feeling happy and content with ones outward appearance is important. I think it is important (just not as important as what society, the media etc put on it) Having pride in our outward appearance is a good thing and shows others when we are holding ourselves well and looking nice that we take pride in who we are. I think feeling beautiful on the inside and outside makes us feel more "complete" ..and why shouldnt we feel AND look beautiful?? We are pushed all the time to focus on either beauty on the inside or beauty on the outside especially, but why isnt it emphasised that we focus on both? I believe everybody is born with an absolute unique beauty that makes us all beautiful. I believe focusing on ENHANCING what we have instead of trying to cover it all up or change it is what we should all aim for. Enhance those gorgeous personality traits that make you YOU!!! Enhance those gorgeous physical features that make you so beautiful Nd unique! WORK ON THAT!
Looking at things from a different perspective like this has made me truly value the saying, "beauty starts from within." I have always heard it, and thought that I understood it..but havent really valued the words at a deeper level. Everything begins and ends with us. Nobody else can or ever will be able to MAKE us feel beautiful.. looking for others approval to feel beautiful just shows that we arent confident within ourselves and doubt what and who we are. This was an absolute constant thing for me in the past..Ive only really started to appreciate my beauty both on the inside and outside and let me tell you I am SO happy! I'm working on self-improvement everyday. My temper for example can use alot of work, and at times my insecurity can flare up for this reason or that..alot of the time at the moment its because of the dreams I have that I want to achieve. I think to myself, "who am I to do that?" In times like this I work on confidence and working to overcome that.
I love being a beautician and having a client come in for a treatment and end up leaving feeling gorgeous because they have had a chat about something that has been bothering them in their life and got it off their chest, as well as recieved a beauty treatment that has given them an instant glow! Its such a healing for the client as well as myself as the beautician I believe!!
The main thing I want to point out is that focusing on all of us as a whole and not just one part or another part is important, I believe. Its what makes us up as an individual and we should embrace that! Enhancing who we are on the inside and out instead of trying to cover ourselves up and change ourselves is what will lead us to happiness! DO IT!!!!! I BELIEVE YOU CAN!!!!!
