I realized that I’ve neglected to talk about one of the strangest things that happened to me while playing Inscryption.
What happened was, while we were replaying the game in German to see what the localization was like, we named one of our Death Cards “Dutch” - because of reasons.
But then, when that card was actually dealt to us, it was instead called “Niederländisch”:
You see, “Niederländisch” is the German word for “Dutch”, as in the language Dutch.
So, somehow, for some bizarre reason, the game had automatically translated that Death Card’s name into German?
Actually getting the card into our deck and changing the language settings afterwards confirmed that the game would indeed just automatically translate the Death Card's name into whatever language we had set the game to:
I have no idea why this would happen, since it’s not like the rest of the game’s text is auto-translated or anything like that.
We did do one experiment with a Death Card called “Mice”, to see if it would translate that to “Mäuse” in German, but the game left that one untouched.
So your guess is as good as mine.
I haven’t had the time for more experiments with this one, so I don’t know how many words would be affected by this - or if it’s even still a thing in the latest version - but I still wanted to share it, because it’s just so weird.
