did you ever love me?
miscellaneous angst starters. open.
⠀⠀love is a difficult concept. you aren't sure if you know it. at least, you aren't quite familiar with how others might feel at the word. what you know is a feeling in your chest. strange, rare, and barely perceptible at times. something... warmer than you are used to ( and what you are used to is nothing, the chill of vacant air in an abandoned cave ). but there are times you can recall it. with your father, when he said he was proud or put a hand on your shoulder to tell you he was there, with you.
dimitri's hand in yours sparks something similar, yet, completely unalike. similar enough that it confuses you. enough that you aren't sure what to call it. what you feel at your father's memory does not cause a start in that still heart of yours. the warmth in your hand is not the same as the warm on your shoulder.
the confusion, the minute uncertainty, is enough to make you pause as dimitri asks his question. it isn't to doubt, but rather to consider. all types of love are strangers to you, but you are not a stranger to them. if what jeralty taught you was one kind, then this is another. delcaring it, however, is not so simple.and perhaps that's what dimitri is hoping for in response. but lips can't form the word, even as it sits in your chest.
' yes. ' a substitute that, to you, is enough. for others, however, it may fall short. you squeeze his hand in hopes of reassuring. ' yes. '
