Is there info on why several social media platforms are down today? Facebook and Instagram is down and people are FREAKING out

Aaaah I’m enjoying some quality schadenfreude right now.

I’ve been spending the day learning a new animation program, occasionally taking breaks and scrolling through tumblr for a few minutes here or there. Same old, same old.

Until someone asked me, *in person* how I was handling the chaos.

Me: Chaos? What chaos?

Him: Oh, Twitter just came back up. It was down for a couple minutes.

Me: Oh, that’s to bad (about to put headphones back on and get back to work).

Him: No, you see, they went down because their services were overwhelmed.

Me: (Mildly intrigued now) Oh?

Him: Yeah. Because facebook is dead. All of it. All of their programs, all of their services. One of the devs got onto reddit and explained, before the post and his account were deleted and scrubbed (and then the gleeful technobabble continued to much joyful chortling).

So yeah, of course I google Zuckerberg’s wealth.

Down by $6B-$7B. From their services being down for only a couple hours. (With no fix in sight, of course, but still)

I haven’t felt such guiltless schadenfreude in so very, very long.

Aaaah what delightful way to start the week.
