Frozen Victorian Garments Arranged into a Larger than Life Bouquet by Nicole Dextras

Bouquet by Nicole Dextras is a composition of 15 frozen garments reminiscent of a floral arrangement, however the beauty is intended to be both enchanting and foreboding. The alluring collection of Victorian dresses was created to appear more like Venus flytraps rather than to reference romance, and

ARTIST HENRIQUE OLIVEIRA CONSTRUCTS A CAVERNOUS NETWORK OF REPURPOSED WOOD TUNNELS AT MAC USP

BRAZILIAN ARTIST HENRIQUE OLIVEIRA (PREVIOUSLY) RECENTLY COMPLETED WORK ON HIS LARGEST INSTALLATION TO DATE TITLED TRANSARQUITETÔNICA AT MUSEU DE ARTE CONTEMPORÂNEA DA UNIVERSIDADE IN SÃO PAULO. AS WITH MUCH OF HIS EARLIER SCULPTURAL AND INSTALLATION WORK THE ENORMOUS PIECE IS BUILT FROM TAPUMES, A KIND OF TEMPORARY SIDING MADE FROM INEXPENSIVE WOOD THAT IS COMMONLY USED TO OBSCURE CONSTRUCTION SITES. OLIVEIRA USES THE REPURPOSED WOOD PIECES AS A SKIN NAILED TO AN ORGANIC FRAMEWORK THAT LOOKS INTENTIONALLY LIKE A LARGE ROOT SYSTEM. BECAUSE THE SPACE PROVIDED BY THE MUSEUM WAS SO IMMENSE, THE ARTIST EXPANDED THE INSTALLATION INTO A FULLY IMMERSIVE ENVIRONMENT WHERE VIEWERS ARE WELCOME TO ENTER THE ARTWORK AND EXPLORE THE CAVERNOUS INTERIOR. TRANSARQUITETÔNICA WILL BE ON VIEW THROUGH THE END OF NOVEMBER THIS YEAR, AND YOU CAN WATCH THE VIDEO ABOVE BY CRANE TV TO HEAR OLIVEIRA DISCUSS ITS CREATION.

Tomás Saraceno's Adult Playground 'On Space Time Foam' Is An Enormous Suspended Trampoline

Have you ever wondered what it would feel like to walk on clouds? Well, now you can.

Visionary artist Tomás Saraceno creates inflatable and airborne biospheres with the morphology of soap bubbles, spider webs, neural networks, or cloud formations, which are speculative models for alternate ways of living.

Tomás Saraceno is the inaugural Visiting Artist at MIT’s new Center for Art, Science & Technology (CAST). An artist trained as an architect, Saraceno deploys theoretical frameworks and insights from engineering, physics, chemistry, aeronautics and materials science. His residency at MIT focuses on advancing new work for the ongoing Cloud Cities series. On Space Time Foam, a project created for HangarBicocca in Milan, Italy, is a multi-layered habitat of membranes suspended 24 meters above the ground that is inspired by cosmology and life sciences.   Each level has a different climate and air pressure and will react to the movement of visitors through it. In a later iteration, the work will become a floating biosphere above the Maldives Islands that is made habitable with solar panels and desalinated water.
