Liberty! So this Corona Virus has put a stop to all my Milan escapades. The exhibition I have been working towards was scheduled to open @canepaneri in Milano tonight - however has been postponed to stop unnecessary germ swapping--apparently the city is a ghost town. Currently documenting the Vaccination roll out at the Oxford Hospitals... I've had fun learning about the mamouth journey the team at The Horton and The Churchill hospital have been on in order to get the staff and the valnerable vaccinated. From the Jabbers, to the pharmacy, to the people who commute the vaccine from a to B, to the folk behind the emails and admin, it's been quite a feat of team effort. A huge Thank you to the NHS foundation Trust for commissioning me... ❤️ I am creating a series of stitched portraits celebrating individual roles of people behind the vaccination and also creating a large 'bayeux' stitch of the Story behind the Vaccination clinic for the John Radcliffe's hospital walls... Hello world! How are you doing out there? We've nearly done January! Must be the slowest month in the calender, and now onto a short leap-year February and then Spring! We have got this! Despite finding my screen time has quadrupled in these recent times, I am so greatful for Online video calls! A small window into someone else's world. Feeling lucky to have the oppertuntiy to exhibit my work @canepaneri Gallery in Milan. Lucky for two reasons one: its Milan! My new work is exploring the theme of sewing machine stories and the textile industry. When I visited this historic traditional Taiwanese house, I learned about the Lovely Grandmother, Miss Gu Yu Chao who grew up and still currently lives in this house. She is a keen sewer, and creative, with a love of Japanese fabric (me too!) What a beautiful place to work. I came to stitch the grandmother with her sewing machine, whilst learning about the things she has made in her life. It was a lovely performance, with the old and new sewing machine working together in unison. I was impressed by her energy and enthusiasm for her craft art the age of 86. She enjoyed watching me stitch her portrait very much. I made one portrait for her and one for me and my up coming show!
