Californias Septembers are usually still hot, the air sticky with sweat and sweet spices, lingering the air. Stanford is no different, you can feel your hair sticking to your forehead and sweat in all kind of places. Just few hours ago you unpacked at your dorm, and now you are already sitting on tribune of a tennis court watching some ball fly from one side to the other.
Some girls from sophomore year decided that they have to show to the freshmen girls the ‘real trophy’ of the school Art Donaldson. So now your here, peaking down over peoples heads to the court to catch glimpse of the so called ‘school trophy’. Unfortunately for you, everyone infront of you decide to have longer necks, and bigger heads then its polite so you literally see nothing.
The game ends pretty fast, and by the roaring of the crowd and squealing of girl you figure the popular guy won. You make your way down the tribune, somehow still hanging at the end of the popular girls group… you think about how will it be next year, when all this will feel familiar and not ridiculously scary and new. Maybe that’s when you stop paying attention to your surroundings, with full force you bump into some guy- you look up and the apology freeze on your lips. A tall guy hovers over you, his curly blonde hair sticking out from under his cap, and his flushed sweaty face crocked in charming smile… and when your heart beats again, its like its beating for the first time. You open your mouth to speak, but he’s quicker. “Sorry” that’s all he said but your heart jumps as if he just confessed love, you want to say that’s okay that your sorry- but he’s already gone, without second glance he’s gone in the crowd.
And that was the first time you saw Art Donaldson, and it was all it took for you to develop this massive crush on him. After that you always look around the campus, hoping that you would catch at least a glimpse of his golden curls, or that you would hear his ringing laugh…But the next time you hear of him, it isn’t how you imagined it, “Guess who the fuck just dm’d me!” Your roomate shouts as she slams the door behind her “Art fucking Donaldson!” you try to ignore how your heart drops...And instead you try for a smile "whattt...?" your roommate flops over next to you on your bed, grinning clearly satisfied. "asked me to come to his game on saturday" Oh. that's great... but you can't say that, so you just smile asking what outfit she plans to wear. After that the next three weeks are hell, your roommate (Jessica) and Art started going out, which really means just a few hang outs but for you, it felt like torture. But then the party invite happened, apparently the frat house which is Art in, is hosting a party and Jessica as the current little date of Art gets invited and free passes...So here you are, right in front of the frat house as the songs beat loud. When you step in, it feels like a jungle. Loud people, some fighting some laughing, by the couch a group if frat boys spawned in their armchair like as if they were kings of the world. You drag yourself through the crowd, to the kitchen to get a drink. And then you see him, its like the world has stopped. To admire him, he’s wearing some adidas shirt, his curls curling around his face like gold. His lips are curled in this handsome smile…and then leans down and- kiss Jessica who’s leaning ber back against the counter. So you just look down at your hands to pour drink, but then you hear your name. “Hey!! You made it” Jessica wraps her arms around you, turning you to Art who’s watching you politely. “This is Art, Art this is my roommate” he nods smiling softly. “Nice to meet you” and you, you have to act like your heart hadn’t stoped fot that little four words. “Yeah you too” you smile, Jessica grins “actually we were just talking about you, your heart drop…”what?”. “Well as much as Art is smart, he’s failing social sciences. And I remembered your good at that class! And like the genius I am I figured, why won’t you tutor Art?” did it in that moment feel like you died? Yes. Was it obvious? Hope not. “Oh I don’t- I am not that good at it” you shrug trying to sound casual. But then Art for the first time talks to you… “come on please, I mean I can pay-“
You don’t hear the rest, because god yes, your tutoring him, and you can’t change your mind anymore.
Au: I did not check the grammar after I wrote this so tbh sorry :<
