It was surprising how much Chase enjoyed working for a ride share. Of course it was just what he did when his other side hustles were particularly slow, but still. Nothing made him feel more in power than being a complete and total stranger’s driver. Witty banter? Check. It fulfilled his ever-need to hear his own damn voice. GPS? Absolutely not, and he refused to use it. A passenger hates his music? Too fucking bad. They can fuck right off. Complete control - it’s what he thrived for, even if it was something as completely idiotic as driving for Uber. Maybe there’s a reason behind him having such mixed reviews...
Listening to Faith Hill and singing along to every word, his hands drumming against the steering wheel, he pulled up to the address listed for the passenger he agreed to pick up. He knew he needed to turn down the music and alert them that he had arrived, but it was the height of the chorus and he needed to burst out singing this kiss at least five more times.
Finally, he gave in and turned the music down as he saw a figure approach the car. “Hi, how are-” The casual pleasantries spilled out of his lips so naturally, but soon as he got a glimpse in the rear view mirror of just who climbed into his backseat, he felt his words get cut short. Turning around, he looked at Rae and dramatically gasped. Wrinkled clothes, worn makeup, tired eyes, unknown location. There was a reason he did PI work, after all. He knew exactly what this was.
“Dear god,” he began to say as he looked upwards with his eyes closed. “It’s me, Chase. Long time no see. I just want to sincerely thank you for this moment. Truly. It will not be forgotten.” Smiling wide, he looked back at Rae and couldn’t help but to feel... excited. He was catching her in the act, which meant he finally had something to hold over her. “Seriously, I mean, is it my birthday? This is the best thing to ever happen. I truly feel honored here. You choose me to be your ride share of shame? I’m touched.”
