It may not be an ideal place for a kid but having Baelfire on board the Jolly Roger made for a nice change. Aye, Killian knew he hit the jackpot when he fished the Dark One’s son out from the freezing waters of Neverland but he grew to care for the boy. Teaching him sailing knots, how to steer, navigation, bonding with him as a father and son would do. Something he always wished he had with his own father had he had the chance. But Killian never imagined he’d ever father any children of his own, being a pirate made that difficult, and yet this experience made him think things through. Think about how much he enjoyed taking care of the young lad and being a figure in his life in some way.
He instantly thought of her and the future the Crocodile took away from him. He felt close to Milah for the first time in many years. And Bae was just like her. He was definitely her son. And while Killian cherished his time with young Baelfire, he did this for Milah, too.
He watched Bae from the port of the ship, foot propped up on a step in contemplation, he wondered if he could get any insights into the Dark One. Any weaknesses. Any clues to end his worthless existence before he destroyed more lives.
“How are you finding the pirate’s life, lad?” he called over the wind as the ship sailed across the seas of Neverland, “good to get the fresh sea air in your lungs.”
