The ground was solid beneath his boots, the earth packed down from months of work, sweat, and more cursing than his mother would have approved of. Shane crossed his arms, surveying the skeletal frame of what would eventually—hopefully—be his house. It still looked more like the ghost of a dream than a home, but he’d get there.
Lucas stood a few feet away, hands in his pockets, eyes tracking over the framework like he could already see the finished thing in his head. That was part of why Shane had asked him out here. The guy had a way of looking at raw materials and knowing what they could be.
Shane shifted his weight, then jerked his chin toward the open space that would be his living room. “Figure I’ll need a piece for the living room. Something solid.” He exhaled, glancing at Lucas before adding, “I'm good with whatever you think would look good and work well for the space.”
That was about as much direction as he planned to give. If Lucas was half as good as Shane knew he was, the end result would be worth it.
