Laila Mir picked up her phone yet again, thumb hovering over the screen as she debated how to word her little invite. Keep it simple, don’t overthink it. She typed a few words and erased them, then she typed again. Finally, she settled on something that felt more like something she'd say: playful, but with a hint of nervousness she couldn’t quite hide even if this was someone she had been dating for awhile now.
"Hey… so, I was thinking… maybe we could do dinner on the 14th? Nothing fancy-fancy, just somewhere cozy. I found a place I think you’d like, and I promise I won’t make you sit through anything too cheesy… unless you want to. 🥰"
She stared at the message for a moment, contemplating her wording before just hitting the little arrow. She had to stop being so cautious, especially with him. Almost immediately, she put the phone down and tried to distract herself by tidying around her space. But of course, her mind kept wandering back to the message. What if he says yes and hates it? she thought, then immediately scolded herself. Stop it, it’s Sanjit. He’ll like it. He always likes it.
Her gaze drifted to the clock. He was probably still working which meant he'd see the message soon enough. And then she'd be waiting. Laila sighed softly as she sank into her couch, legs tucked under her, the tv playing something random with her heart beating a little too speedily. For a few moments, Laila let herself imagine him reading it, maybe he'd smile, or smirk at her nervousness or even tease her for being so deliberate and silly by not calling him first. But all of that faded away because she knew, somewhere in the back of her mind, it was going to be perfect. | @sanjitxgupta
