maya looks back at rose, and it practically hurts to look at her. because she loves her, loves her so much, and she can’t be with her. not truly, not fully, not in the way she wants. at first, the sneaking around, it was kind of fun, but now, she just wants to stop having to hide from the world how much she loves the girl in front of her. “you know why, princess.” she says softly, sadly. they can’t have the happy ending they want, this much maya is sure of. “i know you want to believe that, rosie, and i wish i could too... but i just can’t. i’m too used to getting disappointed.”

Maya’s heart is beating fast in her chest, though it’s not necessarily a bad thing. In less than five hours she’s going to be doing the one thing she’d never thought she’d actually do, but here she is crouching in front of the vanity, attempting to put on her make up. Attempting mostly because her hands won’t stop shaking. Though, it’s not bad nerves, it’s more like she’s so excited and can’t believe this is actually happening kind of nerves. She’s not scared of this anymore, like she was when she was young, because it’s Rose, and Rose makes her feel safer than anyone else in the world. If there’s anyone she could do this with, it’s her. 

She then hears the door open and her gaze snaps over to it, unable to keep the smile off her face once she sees who it is. “Rosie... I thought the rule was that we aren’t supposed to see each other before the wedding.” She says, raising an eyebrow, but she puts the make up down and stands anyways to make her way over the brunette.

maya is seated on her bed, her girlfriend across from her, and her small easel, carefully balanced, between them. there’s also an array of paints and brushes spread out across the bed. she’s painting a portrait of rose and she’s determined to make sure it’s perfect. her phone sits on shuffle next to her, playing music so that they’re not just sitting in silence, and as the next song starts to play, a smile slowly forms onto her lips. it isn’t exactly her usual preference of music, but she’s found she’s fallen quite in love with this song, mostly because of how much it makes her think of the girl in front of her. as it gets close to the chorus, she carefully moves the easel aside, and stands from the bed, going over to rose and offering a hand out to her, whilst the chorus of the song begins to fall from her lips, perfectly in tune. “can i go where you go? can we always be this close forever and ever?”

“You ever think about what things would be like if you never got your memories back?” Jake asked Rose as they sat in his grandpa’s shop. He’d been on cleaning duty when Rose arrived, and had told her to give him a few to finish. He was done now and taking a small break, before they got started on their plans for the evening. “Like... That would’ve been so awful... I can’t imagine my life without you in it.”

Of course the first place Maya goes upon waking up is her girlfriend’s house, her father isn’t even upset, it’s what he expects at this point. She stays long enough for him to give her his birthday wishes, and tell her that he’ll see her later. The Whites are planning her birthday dinner, and he’ll join them there. One last hug for her dad before making her way to the place she very much considers her second home. She doesn’t even bother knocking or going through the window when she arrives, just walks straight in the front door. “Honey! I’m home!” She calls out, and waits for her girl to show up, knowing it won’t be long at all.

Jake kept his arms wrapped around Rose, instinctively pressing a kiss to the top of her head. He was grateful for how things could be between them nowadays, that they could be fully together, enjoy each other, and not have to worry about any more problems. Of course, though Rose may not be a part of the Huntsclan anymore, he was still the American Dragon, and he still had to protect the city. Sometimes he pushed himself a little too much, which led to conversations such as this one. “Hey, I’m always careful. You don’t need to worry, babe, I’m not going anywhere anytime soon, I promise.”

maya can’t fight the grin that appears on her face after rose kisses her, her hands staying threaded through the brunette’s hair, their faces still close despite the kiss being over. but that’s just the kind of closeness and intimacy the two share, every moment they’re together, they’re nearly always touching in some way. “of course, rosie. you are beautiful and i will never stop reminding you.” she says softly, the side of her only rose ever really sees coming out. “i love you.” she adds, before leaning in and their lips press together once more.
