It’s not as if he genuinely thinks that he and SEVERUS SNAPE ever would have been anything remotely like best friends, but perhaps things might have been different ––––––– except GUILT BY ASSOCIATION is in human nature.
And to be fair, Remus hasn’t worked very hard to DISTANCE himself from James, Sirius, or Peter. ( They’re the first people in the world to befriend him, to have his back. WHY WOULD HE ? ) He isn’t usually offended by the icy tone but the FULL MOON looming means his skin in thinner than it normally is.
Remus takes a deliberate ( hopefully calming ) breath.
