It didn’t come as a surprise that Jake had been quick to blame Felix for the shattered vase, considering he’d done a lot of shit to earn himself both words and looks of disapproval from him. He was impulsive and fucked up a lot, and he knew it too, but he really had been innocent this time. How the vase ended up breaking was beyond him. However, there were more important things to worry about than trying to prove his innocence. At the end of the day, whether Jake believed him or not didn’t really matter.
The look of pure desperation and fear on Jake’s face, paired with trembling hands that struggled to collect all the pieces, made it clear that he didn’t want to come forward and face the music. It’d been many years since Felix had parents, but he remembered how often he got into trouble with all the different families he’d been moved around to. The strict ones were the absolute worst and he was happy to be rid of them and their unwanted authority over him. It made sense that Jake would want to avoid the confrontation. From the stories he’d been told, Jake’s dad sounded like he was a real piece of work; too hard on him and expecting too much.
“Dude, that’s like completely fucked. How are we gonna fix it?” Felix asked as he stared down at the shattered glass at their feet. Soon though, he carefully knelt down and began picking up the larger pieces of the broken vase. They were then gently placed on the table next to them and he set to work finding all the smaller pieces. “What’s the big deal anyway? Can you guys not just buy another one to replace it?” He wasn’t trying to be ignorant, he just really didn’t know why it was a big deal for someone who was rich. “It’s not like grandma’s ashes were in it. But uh, what if we go get a dog and secretly let it in, and then we can be like oh shit some dumbass let a fucking dog into the house. I think it knocked over the vase. At least then we don’t have to try to glue it back together and have it end up looking like a kindergartener made it.”
