He hardly hears the words at first, having been enjoying the comfortable silence that’s stretched between them for a few minutes now. He almost felt as though he were drifting somewhere between sleep and consciousness when Anna started to speak. His brows knit together in confusion almost as the words begin to actually register. "What d’ya mean by that?" He looks at her, sitting up a little to see her better, her head still resting comfortably against his chest. He knows this could be going down a path he’s not sure he’s ready for, but his reply is meant to reflect some kind of openness to giving it a try. He isn’t sure what to really say — if she means to go back in time…well, he was married then, had a family; he’s not so sure he can give her the honest answer she wants to hear, but in his mind? blue hues lift to meet his gaze, making sure to stay quiet for just a moment with lips flattened into a straight line as she studied his face. there were so many things kept from one another; she could see it in his eyes and she knew that he could see it in hers but up until this point -- neither had tried to pry. so why had she? a soft intake of breath slips into her nostrils as a slight smile appears on her face -- forced and unconvincing -- as she shakes her head.
