Excellent Royal Canoe interview with JoinMusic
Arcade Fire? - Sollen Grizzlys jagen gehen. Billy Talent? - Ein Tattoo geht noch. Celine Dion? - Nun, mager macht süchtig. Apropos Sucht: So gesehen bietet auch Royal Canoes Debüt-Album "Today We're Believers" jede Menge Abhängigkeitspotential.

JOINMUSIC: What makes a band that dabbles within the (kind of eccentric but still) popular music sector to go for odd meters such as 15/8 on „Bathtubs“ and 10/8 on „Hold On To The Metal“ – and then takes these songs as the first singles to be released?
Michael Jordan: For us, these songs are the most representative of our sound and that's why they are singles. Our sound is unconventional in many ways. By trying to write songs in odd time signatures it acts as a catalyst to writing more creatively. We try to keep certain pop sensibilities in mind when writing in odd time signatures. Like, "can we make something that grooves naturally in 5/4?" It's a fun challenge. It is also fun trying to watch people dance in 15/8.
