The very stylish trends for you to follow!
2018 is going on full speed and we are almost halfway there. Weddings have been reduced to almost none taking place in this hot weather so we can safely go through the international trends that have yet to be followed by us here till winters and of course the wedding season arrive.
For example, these days it’s not at all unusual to see an Afghan policeman on Kabul’s security cordon, known as the Ring of Steel, checking his Nokia 1101 to verify that his monthly salary has been transferred to his mobile wallet. Then, just as quickly, texting a sum of money to his wife’s mobile phone in rural Afghanistan so she can buy groceries for the family or a new propane tank for the kitchen.
How Afghanistan is on the Leading Edge of a Tech Revolution
Nicki: It may not sound like an impressive scenario since our banking apps on our smartphones do these things, but these are feature ("dumb") phones that are used as a mobile wallet. This is a developing country mobile tech trend I have been keeping an eye out for. I'm curious what it could mean for bringing computing power to folks who cant afford a computer or internet access in their home.
Lucy: It's great to hear specific examples of this happening. It reminds me of how in art class, all during the semester we were given a problem and a limited set of tools (such as using only 2 colors of paint). We created exceptionally creative pieces. At the end of the quarter, we were given free range and as many tools as we wanted. The final projects were somewhat dismal compared to the previous projects in class:)
Here's another example of how so much can be done with limited technology - recording music with cellphone memory cards: http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/454629120/music-from-saharan-cellphones-lp
(It also makes me realize how I really don't mind pixelated video after watching countless hours of youtube videos)
