Wanna Be a Blogger? You Totally Can Be. Just Start.

Blogging has always felt like second nature. I’m highly opinionated, need to vent, love a good conspiracy theory, and enjoy sharing all the things with all the humans.

I’ve been getting some DMs asking me about this blog. It seems to have picked up some traction in the Warren Academy hallways.

So I wanted to set the record straight and maybe even encourage a few of you followers to get out there and start your own blog:

1. Why are YOU even blogging?

People blog for different reasons. Know yours. Are you just looking for an outlet to vent? Are you trying to connect with people about a cause you care about? Do you need a space to spill some tea? What are you hoping to achieve? The options are endless, but it’s crucial you come up with at least one reason to why you’re doing what you’re doing so that you can create the right content and keep working towards your #bloggoals!

2. Finding your domain

If you think captioning a selfie is hard, try coming up with the right domain. Your domain is your website’s URL. In other words, it’s your baby’s name. You’re right to mull over it and stress out about it. And no! I am NOT overreacting. This is what your blog is going to be known as. Be clever, be you, and do not settle.

3. You gotta start somewhere

Once you have a purpose AND a name, it’s time to start. I admit the thought of others reading your writing and judging you by your blog can be nerve wracking. But from what I’ve learned, only practice will make you better. You just have to be consistent, and the humans else will follow!

4. It’s a multimedia world we live in!

You may not know how to crop a picture or how to create a GIF, but, over time, these are essential blogger skills you need to nail down. Sadly, text alone is no longer enough. You want to keep your readers engaged, and one of the best ways to do that is by using different mediums in your blog. So whip out your camera, microphone or whatever gadget you have in mind and start creating.
