What If Saria's spirit is still around and she asked Hestu to "lose" some kooks so link had somthing to do to get his mind off his loneliness? Like, all the kooks you find are happy and act like children so she thought itd cheer him up. And maybe just maybe hed remember what it was like to be a child in his past life in the work forest?

It’s so sad to really think about the loneliness Link has to go through after waking up from a hundred year nap ): It’s a nice headcanon to have Saria look over him as he goes through his journey in BoTW and see glimpses of his past lives! I think I have read many fics that relate Link and Zelda catching glimpses of their past lives lol
